Shrijal Desai is a third-year medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Senior Graduate Fellow at The Institute of Clinical Bioethics at Saint Joseph’s University. Shrijal obtained his undergraduate degrees in Integrative Biology (Honors) and Economics from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as dual master’s degrees in Medical Physiology and Bioethics & Medical Humanities from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Trained in bioethics and medical humanities, he contributes to ethics scholarship and education through collaborations with the Institute of Clinical Bioethics at Saint Joseph’s University, manuscript review work, and community-engaged initiatives serving underserved patients in Philadelphia. His research bridges clinical bioethics with translational trauma science. He has presented and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in areas focusing on synthetic platelet nanotechnology for hemorrhage control. He is an inventor on an intellectual property patent covering the lyophilization of peptide-decorated liposomal synthetic platelets (SynthoPlate) for hemorrhage control. He helped design, manufacture, and evaluate nanoparticle platelet platforms and has research presented at national meetings, including MHSRS, the Gordon Research Conference, and hemostasis symposia. He continues to assist in the Institute of Clinical Bioethics Health Promoters Program and its commitment to fostering health and well-being within our community through a multifaceted approach that encompasses the diverse aspects of individuals and community health. His interests center on integrating ethics, equitable access, and surgical innovation from bench to bedside.
